Boston Bound

Greetings Friends & Readers,

This is my first personal update since I began writing Work In Progress.  As you may know if you’ve read my About Brian page, I am a filmmaker, media designer, and social activist. I worked in entertainment news, children’s television, and left a job at a national television network to launch a freelance career in the midst of the recession.  I bill my work as Be Gee M (sound it out), and I conspire with visionary individuals and organizations to change the world through media. Mostly, I collaborate with a handful of non-profits, small businesses, and individuals to harness the web, film, social, and new media to build and share their work.

I love what I do.  I get to work from home, or from my parent’s home, or from anywhere I choose.  I have the flexibility to host visitors, visit friends, and work on projects I believe in.  One of my favorite aspects of my work is that I get to work in a variety of fields, with a diverse group of people, and take on new adventures whenever I fancy.  Which leads me to my upcoming adventure.

I leave on February 27 for Boston, MA where I will shoot a “Making Of” miniseries for an independent film starring Mark Wahlberg.  One of the dreams on my recently created Dream List is “Direct a feature length film,” and while this project is neither feature length nor a directing gig, it does get me back into production mode and provides an opportunity to work from a new location (another goal of mine).

Here’s a list of what I’ll be up to:

  • Continuing to manage and develop websites for four on-going clients
  • Maintaining the website and communication needs for Sanctuary Collective, the non-profit I co-founded in January 2009.
  • Posting two new entries a week on Work In Progress
  • Creating two new videos a month
  • Taking as many pictures as I can imagine
  • Practicing my Danish on Rosetta Stone
  • Hopefully: Taking a class in Danish

It is going to be a jam-packed time away from my home base in Brooklyn, New York.  I am looking forward to switching up my routine, dusting off my film production skills, and pushing myself to create more!

While in Boston, I will be subletting a room in a friend’s house and a good friend of mine who is transitioning out of the shelter system will be subletting my room here in New York, so rent costs will only increase slightly.  Food costs could go any number of ways since I am not certain on my work schedule, grocery store location, or the amount of food provided by the production.

I have a few goals for my time in Boston:

  • Regularly create goals for my client projects and meet them
  • Grow the Sanctuary Collective subscriber base by 100 members
  • Meet my entry & video posting goals for Work In Progress
  • Complete Rosetta Stone through Level 1, Unit 5
  • Attend at least one Danish cultural event

Now it’s time for me to get a move on, I’ve got a busy day left today and an ambitious two weeks before I leave.  More soon.

Skål, (that’s “Cheers” in Danish)
Brian
