When it comes to money, how much is enough?

A textured, net bag of marbles. The marbles are shades of blue, brown, and beigeMy first job after college was a mid-level position at a television network (pre-economic collapse). My next adventure was to work for myself. As I transitioned from full-time corporate life to full-time self-employment, I worked for The Simple Way. Rather than ask how valuable my work is, or what the going rate is, they asked “How much do you need?” I’d never thought of compensation in that way before.

How much do I need?

In my time working with The Simple Way, I  underestimated how much I need. I wasn’t going into debt, but I wasn’t having all of my needs met. I didn’t visit the doctor as often as I should have, I couldn’t save for emergencies. Now, I am constantly evaluating how much is enough, how much I need.

I know that I need to push past feelings of shame around having enough while others don’t have enough (I want to keep my gratitude when I do have enough). And I want to work to create a world where we all have enough.

I want to hear from you, how do you know if you have enough?
