Feeling a bit disconnected from reality? Burnt out perhaps? Looking for a way to carve out some time for yourself? I’ve got some ideas, read ‘em, try ‘em, share your experiences, and then offer some tips of your own.
First, turn off the computer! If you are anything like me, it is easy to get sucked into the computer. Facebook, Google Reader, blogs, news, YouTube, endless streams of random (but interesting!) pages, spreadsheets, solitaire, budgeting programs. Many times we use the computer in fulfilling ways: talking to friends, writing, or balancing our finances. Still, staring at a computer screen and type type typing away for hours brings a host of physical problems, not to mention the mental/emotional ones. Turn off your computer (power it ALL the way down) and step away. Now that I’m no longer on my computer, what to do?

Ash over at The Middle Finger Project recently wrote an article on NOT following your dreams. “They” (who is They anyway?) say to be controversial in your blog posts in order to be successful and I know she’s using a bit of hyperbole for the sake of argument. I mean, the website is called The Middle Finger Project! I get a lot of what she’s saying: too often we just follow the pack even when we say we’re following our dreams, we need the experience and insight of others to help refine our path, and even rejecting the status quo can be a clique of its own. I have a confession: I get excited about projects quickly and easily. Sometimes I say yes too quickly. A successful business, and life for that matter, is about sustainability over the long haul.
